Attorney Ben Leoni Joins Lewis, Bess, Williams & Weese P.C.

Lewis, Bess, Williams, & Weese is excited to announce that Ben Leoni has joined the firm as Counsel on January 14, 2019.  Ben is a member of the Firm’s Litigation, Employment, and Natural Resources practice and will represent national and regional companies in all areas of employment law, commercial litigation, and natural resources litigation.

Ben joins the Firm after spending seven and a half years litigating commercial, land use, and employment matters for a full-service firm in Portland, Maine.  During this time, he successfully represented clients at all stages of litigation and handled numerous trials as “first chair” counsel.  His land-use litigation practice saw him handle some of Maine’s most complex title and easement disputes that relate back to this country’s earliest 1600 colonial land grants and patents. Ben also maintains a healthy appellate practice, having argued and briefed many cases before the Maine Supreme Court.  For these accomplishments and more, his peers selected him as a Super LawyersTM Rising Star in general litigation in 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018.  In 2011, Ben won a Burton Award for Distinguished Legal Writing at a ceremony at the Library of Congress attended by Justice Breyer, Justice Sotomayor, and Chief Justice Roberts of the U.S. Supreme Court.

Prior to private practice, Ben graduated Magna Cum Laude from Vermont Law School, where he served as the Head Notes Editor of the Vermont Law Review.  Ben received his Bachelor of Arts from Bates College.

“We are pleased to add Ben to our litigation, employment and natural resources practice groups,” said Zeke Williams, co-managing Director of the firm.  “With Ben’s extensive litigation background and his passion for advocacy, we believe Ben will be an excellent resource for our Firm’s clients,” said Janette Ferguson, a Director in the firm’s litigation group.

Outside of the office, Ben is a fully-sponsored backcountry skier who has appeared in numerous ski movies as well as Powder, Skiing, Freeskier, Backcountry, and Ski magazines.
